Day 1 Win: Team Bahamas 3-0 Against El Salvador
On opening day at the prestigious Billie Jean King (BJK) Cup AmericasGroup II, The Bahamas won 3-0 Against El Salvador. The Bahamas is seeded #1 in the competition and is in Group A with Bermuda, El Salvador and the Dominican Republic.
Coming out strong for The Bahamas yesterday was Elana Mackey who captured her maiden singles win at the BJK Cup. Elana only allowed her opponent 2 games and had a dominant performance with a straight-set victory over Daniela Aguilar of El Salvador 6-2, 6-0. Following was the Bahamas’ current National Tennis Champion Sydney Clarke. Sydney put the Bahamas in the win column once again with an impressive straight-set victory over Michelle Irigoyen of El Salvador 6-3 6-1.
Teaming up for doubles for The Bahamas would be Player/Captain Simone Pratt and Sydney Clarke. The duo sealed the deal giving The Bahamas a clean sweep over El Salvador. Simone and Sydney had a strong doubles performance winning over Irigoyen and Santos Marmol 6-0 6-3.
Day 2 Win: Team Bahamas 3-0 Against Bermuda
Today was another strong performance for Team Bahamas at the 2022 BJK Cup. After capturing her maiden win yesterday Elana Mackey followed up with another straight-set victory today over Asia-Leigh Hollis 6-1, 6-1. Coming out strong for The Bahamas in Rubber #1 was Sydney Clarke who had a dominant performance over Shelby Madeiros 6-0, 6-2. Both Elana and Sydney only gave up 2 games in their matches.
Teaming up for doubles for The Bahamas would be Player/Captain Simone Pratt and Sydney Clarke once again. The duo sealed the deal, giving The Bahamas a clean sweep over Durham and Jackson from Bermuda. The ladies played really well together winning 6-0, 6-1. After yesterday’s win, Elana stated, “My match started off a little rough but as I got warmed up, I was able to play free and go for my
shots. I am looking forward to seeing my performance getting better after each match.” Sydney stated “It was a great start for the team because we were able to handle business with confidence on day 1. I am positive that we will be able to maintain it.”
On the doubles pairing, Simone noted “It was our first time ever playing together and we both felt a great connection with each other and we believe that together we all can carry team Bahamas through.” Sierra Rodgers stated, “It is really exhilarating being a part of the team and supporting the team.” As she cheered hard for the girls, she expressed she was very proud of the Bahamas’ performance. She hopes that the team continues to work hard to make it to the finals.
The Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association (BLTA) congratulates Team Bahamas on the victories over both Bermuda and El Salvador The team consisting of Sydney Clarke, Elana Mackey, Sierra Rodgers and Captain Simone Pratt has not dropped a set all tournament. We pray for their continued success.
