Emerging victorious after two days of team trials at the National Tennis Centre were Simone Pratt and Saphirre Ferguson for the ladies and for the men Donte Armbrister and Marvin Rolle. All have represented internationally for these teams except Saphirre Ferguson who will be debuting at the BJK Cup in July.
The team trials pool consisted of collegiate players, former Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup Players and talented juniors who all competed for the honour of representing Team Bahamas at the 2023 Davis Cup in Paraguay and BJK Cup in the Dominican Republic.
Donte and Marvin will join our 2022/23 National Champion Denali Nottage and runner-up Kevin Major Jr who both qualified for The team.
Simone and Saphirre will join Giorgio Baldacci Open Nationals Champion Elana Mackey and Runner-up Sydney Clarke at the BJK Cup. The Venue for BJK is Centro Nacional De Tenis Parque Del Este in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The following eight nations will compete in Americas Group II in 2023:
Bahamas, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Honduras, Paraguay, Uruguay and Venezuela
Two will be promoted and two will be relegated. The date is July 26-29, 2023.
The Venue for Davis Cup is Club Internacional de Tenis in Asuncion, Paraguay. The surface is clay and the event will be held on June 19th 2023 on clay courts.
The following teams will contest Davis Cup Americas Group III in 2023:
– Bahamas
– Bermuda
– Bolivia
– Costa Rica
– Dominican Republic
– Honduras
– Panama
– Paraguay
– Venezuela
Two round-robin groups (one of 4, and one of 5). Three nations will be promoted (Winner and runner-up of A1 v B1, and winner of A2 v B2).
Two nations will be relegated (including the nation in B5 position, and the losing team in A4 v B4)
Vice President Chilean Burrows presented medals to the finalists along with President Perry Newton. We congratulate Simone, Saphirre, Donte and Marvin on making the 2023 teams for The Bahamas. All the athletes expressed their honour to be a part of the team.
The BLTA will now prepare for the teams to travel as they compete amongst the most talented in the region. All the best to the teams!
