Three top Bahamian juniors are participating in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) U18 Tournament in Castries, St. Lucia. Sydney Clarke, Jacobi Bain and Donte Armbrister are playing amongst other talented tennis juniors from the USA, Brazil, Canada, Barbados, Switzerland Mexico and other countries.
Donte Armbrister seeded 4th in the Boys’ Draw played well yesterday and won over Kyle Griffith from Barbados 7-5, 7-5 in Singles. Donte moves onto Round 2 to play Hai Vo from Vietnam today. Jacobi Bain fought hard but lost his Singles in straight sets to American Niklas Von Hellens. On the girls’ side, Sydney Clarke would take her opening match to a three-setter but was not able to win over American Mia Slama.
In Doubles each one of the Bahamian trio moves onto the Quarterfinals for an opportunity to make the Semifinals! Sydney Clarke and partner Tangia Rigley-Codrington who had success last year as doubles winners, won yesterday over Alexis and Madeiras 6-4, 6-2. Sydney and Tangia the #1 Doubles seed in the tournament will face Purser from Great Britain and Yabuta from Japan today.
On the boys’ side, Jacobi Bain teamed up with Niklas from the United States. The duo won yesterday over Leslie and Shepphard from Trinidad 6-0, 6-1 and will face the #1 Doubles seed today Keuhne from Switzerland and Brazilian Cruz. Donte Armbrister and partner Johnathan Laforest of theUnited States are seeded 3rd in Doubles and will face Canadian brothers Eric and Kevin Kovacs today.
The Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association wishes Sydney, Donte and Jacobi success for the remainder of tournament play.
