The Bahamas achieved a second placement with a 4-1 record in tournament play. The team closed out with a dominant performance over the US Virgin Islands. In the singles both Tatyana Madu playing in the #1 spot and Kaylah Fox playing in the #2 spot had shutout wins 6-0, 6-0 over their opponents Safiyah and Aminad Prasad. In doubles, the team of Briana Houlgrave and Kaylah Fox won in straight sets 6-0, 6-1.
The team which includes Briana Houlgrave, Kaylah Fox, Tatyana Madu and Coach Marion Bain has made a very indelible impression in Santo Domingo. Their tennis skill and talent were on display and the representation was excellent.
President Newton of the BLTA expressed joy and pride over Team Bahamas performance. He stated ” We knew that we had fielded a very strong team. The fact that the members are all representing at this regional competition for the first time did not diminish our confidence in their ability. All the girls are top-ranked players in the country. They have performed well on the local tennis circuit in The Bahamas and have availed themselves of international tournaments in the United States. It takes a lot of dedication to maintain a high physical and competitive standard during Covid as there were restrictions in the past year. The BLTA made every effort to put together the best team and to assure they had what was needed to participate well. On behalf of my board, we applaud Tatyana, Kaylah and Briana and veteran Coach Bain. Coach Bain is always willing and enthusiastic to serve and we thank her for coaching the 2021 Team to a successful end. We are beyond excited for the Finals in November in Mexico. The last group of 12-year-olds to represent The Bahamas at this event was Donte Armbrister and Jacobi Bain. The Bahamas has once again emerged on the top. So we are happy to be in this commendable circle denoting great achievement.”
The Finals is expected to take place on November 22nd in México.
