The Danny Rigby Tennis Tournament was held in Freeport, Grand Bahama this past weekend at the YMCA. The ages of kids who participated were 6 to 15. The goals of the tournament were: 1. To increase matchplay for juniors and 2. To have juniors practising and competing. 40 players participated in the tournament with 9 round-robin groups.
Mr Rigby spoke candidly about his intentions relative to the organization of these events “Overall my interest is to develop tennis
juniors and I plan to have these tournaments every three months. The matches went well and while the juniors got valuable match play the tournament was completed in one day. “
Asked what lasting impressions he had after the end of a successful tournament Coach Rigby stated “I’m most impressed with two juniors who improved the most in these last three months. All in all, it was a very positive tennis experience.”
Coach Rigby is also the Vice President of the Grand Bahama Tennis Association. He has worked with many of the young individuals in The Bahamas over many years. Danny continues to give unselfishly to the sport.
The Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association congratulates Coach Rigby on a well-organized tournament and for his work in developing the young tennis talent in Grand Bahama and in The Bahamas. Pictures with tournament participants, winners and Coach Rigby are
