The Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association (BLTA) President Perry Newton and Vice-President Chilean Burrows are attending the 2022 International Tennis Federation (ITF) Conference and Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Glasglow, Scotland.
Some of the initiatives of the ITF that are being presented are:
– To be open and welcoming to everyone; embracing new forms of the sport
– To be open to evolution and the challenge to think differently
– To be inclusive and creative
The ITF focus areas include investment, development of the sport, Billie Jean Cup and Davis Cup participation, fostering partnerships and promoting opportunities that will ensure tennis is inclusive for all. Relative to the Opportunities platform the ITF’s “Advantage All” program spearheaded by ITF Vice President Katrina Adams, provides opportunities for talented women to serve tennis nationally, regionally and internationally.
President Newton noted that “One of the highlights at the ITF AGM is digital strategies that will enhance tennis efficiency, productivity and growth. The digitalization features that are of particular interest for the BLTA include promotion of the online ITF Academy, utilization of the World Tennis Number (WTN) as well as the tournament management software.” President Newton noted ” The BLTA fully supports the Advantage All program that seeks to provide equal opportunities for women in tennis. It was a pleasure to see Billie Jean King (BJK) in attendance at the BJK Cup finals, a pioneer of women’s rights in the field of tennis.” Vice President Chilean Burrows also supports the Advantage All program. She stated, ” the program’s purpose is to get more women and girls involved in the sports by strengthening the junior tennis initiative (JTI) program.” She also noted that “The conference is going well and President Haggerty is doing a marvelous job and it is good to see a return to a full physical conference and AGM this year.”

We are appreciative of the BLTA representing the country and the Association on this international stage in Glasglow.
