The Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association (BLTA) congratulates Michael Major Jr. and Genesis Missick on receiving tennis scholarships. Michael accepted the athletic scholarship to play for Howard University. Genesis Missick received an athletic scholarship from Livingstone College. Michael and Genesis represented The Bahamas on numerous national teams as top tennis juniors.
Michael who represented The Bahamas in 2022 on the Jr. Davis Cup spoke about this great opportunity, “I’m extremely excited to announce that I have signed to play D1 tennis at Howard University for the fall of 2023! I would like to thank everyone who has helped me in my journey; coaches, friends, family and most importantly God. Without you all, I would not be in the position which I am in today, so I am especially grateful for your continued support. Special thanks to coach Nicholas Askew for giving me this unbelievable opportunity. I can’t wait to join you all in Washington, D.C. Go Bison!”
Genesis is currently in the lineup for the Livingston Blue Cats after receiving a wonderful opportunity in 2022 to play for the team. She is a native of Freeport, Grand Bahama. This month in a tennis college match Genesis played in the #1 position against her sister Shay’Tonya Missick who plays for Johnson C. Smith University Golden Bulls, her bigger sister came out on top. The talented sisters certainly made Bahamian tennis history facing off against each other on the collegiate circuit!
The BLTA congratulates Michael and Genesis on their achievements. Their hard work and commitment to the game have produced great results. We pray for God’s blessings over them as they embark on their respective tennis journey. We are so very proud of you Michael and Genesis!
