A highly contested and very competitive 2023 Bahamas Games Tennis came to a successful conclusion on Tuesday, July 11th 2023 at the National Tennis Centre. The event included a talented studded cast from the following islands: Abaco, Mical, Grand Bahama, New Providence, Long Island, Andros and Eleuthera.
The Gold medal match featuring Andros versus Grand Bahama reflected the intensity of the athletes and the competitiveness of the tennis games. In the Men’s Open matchup, Denali Nottage won convincingly over Andros Michael Major Jr in straight sets giving Grand Bahama the early team lead. In the Boys Junior Savano Hanna would be victorious and tie up the score for Andros 1 -1 with a win over Aiden Ritchie from Grand Bahama. Sydney Clarke playing for Andros would continue her win streak as she won in straight sets over Grand Bahama’s Simone Pratt, giving Andros the 2-1 lead. Jalisa Clarke got the win over Sarai Clarke in the Junior Girls division tying up the matchup 2 all. With much at stake the Open Doubles from Philip Major Jr and Jacobi Bain (Andros)against the brothers’ duo of Rodney and Rasheed Carey from Grand Bahama was exciting ending in a three-set thriller of a match, putting Andros ahead 3-2. In The Ladies’ Doubles matchup Grand Bahama’s Lareka Russell and
Simone Pratt displayed great finesse as they won over the sisters’ duo of Sydney and Sarai Clarke. With the teams all tied up at 3-3 it would come down to the last match of the tournament, the Mixed Doubles. Andros Sydney Clarke and Jacobi Bain won the 10 PT match Tiebreak over Denali Nottage and Lareka Russell. The spectators supported their respective teams to the very end.
For the Bronze medal match, Eleuthera played Long Island and clinched their matchup 4-2. Kevin Major Jr won over Anthony Burrows Jr, Synaj Watkins won over Ayai Bethel in an exciting 3-setter, and Elana Mackey won over Genesis Missick. BreAnn Ferguson won in a walkover. With the matchup tied 2 all, the doubles pairing of Kevin Major Jr and Zander Cromwell won over Anthony Burrows Jr and Bjorn Ferguson and on the ladies’ side Elana Mackey and Kaylee Kanuka won in 3 sets over Genesis Missick and Saphirre Ferguson. Both Kevin Major Jr from Eleuthera and Synaj Watkins from Long Island went undefeated in their singles play.
New Providence would win their final match-up over Abaco as Justin Lunn won over Shawn Lightbourn, Miguel Smith won over Latajh Orlando, Sierra Rodgers won over Cameel Mcdonald and Aryauna-Skye Davis won over Kelevia Parkes.

finishers, Eleuthera. Outstanding male and female athletes were announced. Sydney Clarke won the most outstanding female athlete and Denali Nottage won the most outstanding male athlete. Both Denali and Sydney led their team and did not drop a singles match all tournament long!
