The Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association has partnered with the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture to host a Tennis Summer Camp at the National Tennis Centre. Camp Facilitator and Junior Development Head for the BLTA Mr. Perry Newton has directed the camp over the past four (4) weeks.
As the camp comes to a close this week, the campers and instructors are focused on putting all they have learned into competitive play. The camp had up to 40 participants.
Yesterday the camp was visited by Ministry officials where some of the campers had a friendly match against the visiting officials. Mr. Newton said the summer camp was an awesome experience and a pure joy to see the tennis development of the participants. In the program, there was a wide range of persons from primary school to high school students and even some college students. “We were able to take campers who were beginners in tennis and get them to a point where they could play, serve, and hit a forehand and backhand. There was also eagerness in the camp. Instructors whose ability to develop teaching techniques was improved; they prepared and conducted tennis lessons.”
It is hoped that this tennis summer camp is the start of an ongoing love by the participants for the sport of tennis.
