Sydney Clarke and Donte Armbrister advance in the ITF junior tournament in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The duo are playing amongst top talent from the Caribbean, USA, Great Britain, Romania, Brazil and Switzerland.
Sydney Clarke ranked in the top 500 on the ITF junior tennis platform is performing well as she has advanced to the quarterfinals in singles and the Semifinals in Doubles. Sydney received a 1st round bye in Singles by virtue of being the #1 seed. In the 2nd round, she played and won comfortably over Honare from Trinidad 6-0, 6-1. Sydney will face Weekes from Barbados today.
On the Doubles side, Sydney is also seeded #1 along with partner Yabuto from Japan. The duo obtained a bye in the 1st round and won over Americans Slama and Demicheli 7-6, 6-4 yesterday. They will play in the Semifinals today against the Barbados duo Hewitt and Leslie for a possible place in the Final.
Despite a well-fought second round Singles’ lost (3-set tiebreak match) Donte Armbrister was able to regroup and advance to the Semifinals in Doubles along with partner Ellis Short of the USA. They won Tuesday over Trinidadians Nwokolo and Wong 6-1, 6-1. Yesterday Donte and Short won again over Americans Rankins and Smarty 7-5, 6-1. Today they will play Barbados duo, Marshall and Slocombe, for a possible spot in the Final.
The Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association wishes both Sydney and Donte well in the Semifinals’ Doubles and Sydney in her Quarterfinals’ Singles.
