The Fed Cup Team of Iesha Shepherd, Gabriela Donaldson, Sierra Donaldson and Lauryn Daxon were in action today against Puerto Rico. The home team Puerto Rico had great support and home-court advantage and was able to defeat The Bahamas. Gabriela Donaldson lost to Bou 6-0,6-1. Iesha Shepherd lost to Puig 6-0, 6-0. The duo of Donaldson and Shepherd played much better in doubles but lost to Puerto Rico 6-4, 6-0.
The Bahamas faces another tough team tomorrow and will match up against Uruguay. The Team is gaining great exposure and experience as they represent The Bahamas on the international stage. The average age of the Fed Cup teams this year is 24with some high-ranking players who are on the Professional Circuit. This gives our relatively young Bahamas team with an average age of 16the opportunity to hone their skills sets and talent. The players are the top 4 female players at the Nationals and thus now have this excellent opportunity to showcase themselves in Puerto Rico and expand their tennis acumen. Team Bahamas despite being relatively young continue to represent well as they position the country for future success in the upcoming years. They will certainly be a force to be reckoned with in ensuing years. The Team is hoping for a highly competitive match tomorrow with a victory over Uruguay. We wish Gabriela, Iesha, Sierra and Lauryn all the best for the rest of the tournament!
