Team Bahamas defeated Barbados in round-robin play with a 3-0 victory. Saphire Ferguson won 6-2, 6-2, Sierra Rodgers followed up with a 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 win. Our Team closed out with doubles played by BreAnn and Saphirre with a 6-1, 6-0 win. The Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association congratulates Sierra, Saphirre, BreAnn and Coach Marion on advancing to the Main Draw.
Yesterday, Team Bahamas faced host country Dominican Republic in the main draw of the World Junior Tennis Championships for Girls U14. Up first was Saphirre Ferguson who fought but lost 0-6, 2-6. Sierra Rodgers also played hard but lost in straight sets 4-6, 0-6. The doubles duo of BreAnn and Saphirre tried to put a win in The Bahamas’ column but fell short with a 1-6, 3-6 loss.
Team Dominican was seeded 6th and was a very formidable opponent with a 3-0 victory over The Bahamas. However, Coach Marion noted that the girls have played very well throughout the tournament and should take away some good experiences
for the future.
The Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association encourages the team of Sierra, BreAnn, Saphirre and Coach Marion as they resume match play today for 5th – 8th placement. The tournament has 14 countries participating from Central America and the Caribbean region.
