Setting history for Indiana Tech, Abigail Simms and the Warriors won the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Women’s Tennis Tournament championships on Saturday marking two consecutive years as champions. They defeated No. 2 University of Northwestern Ohio 4-0 at the Grand Rapids Racquet Club.
Abigail was key playing the #1 doubles and #2 singles. Abigail won at No. 2 Singles, defeating Ana Cetina 6-4, 6-2. Due to the team shutting out the opponents, 4-0 in singles the doubles match with Abigail Simms/Criss Echavarria versus Veronika Kovalchuk/Jelena Lopicic went unfinished.
The team was undefeated in the conference going into the championships. Warriors now receive the league’s automatic berth to the NAIA Women’s Tennis National Championship in Mobile, Ala. May 17-21.
Abigail also captured the All-Conference award due to her hard work and great results this season. She was named the conference Player of the Week in April.
The Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association (BLTA) congratulates Abigail on setting history with back-to-back conference championships! In addition, your All-Conference Award and Conference Player of the Week recognition were well deserved. Abigail and her teammates are going to Nationals again and we pray they have great success!
