On Saturday, February 11, 2023, The Baha Mar Foundation held a Ribbon Cutting ceremony at the tennis courts in Yellow Elder at the Tom “The Bird” Grant Park. The Foundation graciously resurfaced two courts for the residents of Yellow Elder and the surrounding communities. The Bahamas Lawn Tennis (BLTA) President Perry Newton was invited to participate in the ribbon cutting alongside Mr. Graeme Davis (Chairman of Bahamar) and the Honorable Mckell Bonaby (Member of Parliament for Mt Moriah and Executive Chairman of the Bahamas Public Parks and Beaches Authority). Also on hand were Mr Robert Sands (Senior Vice President at Bahamar), Shena Bowleg (Harold Road Club president) and the representatives from Baha Mar. Coach Cory Francis, Devlin Fisher (Bahamar), adult players, the kids from the community and the BLTA Play Tennis program kids were a part of this grand reopening.
After the ribbon cutting, there was a kid’s tennis clinic that opened up play on the newly resurfaced courts. Coach Cory Francis led this session. Bahamar also treated the kids to snacks. The BLTA was pleased to be on hand to support Baha Mar as they continue to make a positive impact in tennis. The Baha Mar Foundation recently hosted the third annual Baha Mar Tennis Cup in conjunction with the Mark Knowles Foundation. Many kids were able to meet and play with top international tennis professionals. This was followed up with the recent upgrades to the tennis courts by Bahamar, another successful giveback event. The kids thoroughly enjoyed this fantastic opportunity, courtesy of Bahamar. The impact on the community through sports is long-lasting and the work undertaken by Bahamar is expected to reap some good rewards in the local community.
We congratulate Baha Mar on their commitment and investment in the community, the kids and the sport of tennis in The Bahamas!
