After 4 days of competition, the top 16 players for boys and girls advanced to the main draw (GA) in JITIC and the next 32 players moved on to main draw (G-3). Bahamians Jerald Carroll Jackson Mactaggart and William McCartney advanced to the GA Main Draw R16 for the Boys. William, seeded 2nd in the Boys Main Draw won in the R16 over Alejandro Calles from Mexico 6-4, 3-6, 1-6. In the 4th round, William lost to Sebastian Garcia from Mexico 1-6, 2-6. Jerald seeded 4th won in the R16 Main Draw over Jorge Fonseca of Mexico 6-3, 6-4. Jerald then played in a tough 3-setter in the 4th round but lost to Ronaldo Cottam 2-6, 5-7 and 2-6. Jackson Mactaggart would face the #1 seed, Cossio, from Mexico in the R16 losing 6-2, 6-1. In the main draw G3 Patrick Mactaggart played 4th seed Hastwick, he lost 2-6, 2-6.
In doubles, GA Main Draw Jerald and Jackson would team up to advance to the semifinals where they will face William and partner Alfred from the US Virgin Islands. To get to the semis Jackson and Jerald won 6-3,6-4 vs.Calles and Rivera from Mexico. William and his partner are seeded #2 in doubles they advanced in a three-setter nailbiter 6-7, 6-2, 12-10 over Martin and Scheauffler from Guatemala and El Salvador respectively. Patrick is in the Main Draw Doubles G-3 and has teamed up with Baquero from the Dominican Republic advancing to the 4th round after a win over Dubois and Kormdijk of Suriname 6-3, 6-0.
On the girl’s side, the girls were able to compete in the G-3 singles main draw. In the R32 Tatyana Madu won over Drigon of Grenada 6-0, 6-1. In the R16 Tatyana would go up against the #1 seed from El Salvador Esperanza losing 6-3, 6-0. Kaylah Fox also advanced from R32 to the R16 winning over Costa Rica’s Montero 6-3, 6-3 but fell to Campbell Smith in a tough 3-setter 2-6, 6-4 8-10. Castillo of the Dominican Republic would advance over BreAnn Ferguson in the R32. Briana Houlgrave who was seeded 7th in the G3 won her match in R32 over El Salvador Martinez 6-2, 6-1 and would fall to Dominican Cabral in the R16.
In doubles, Briana Houlgrave and Kaylah Fox are ranked 3rd in the doubles G-3 and received a bye into the 4th round. BreAnn Ferguson teamed up with Haricharran from Trinidad but lost in the R32 doubles 3-6, 3-6. Tatyana Madu teamed up with Walker from Trinidad and won in straight sets in the R16, 6-2, 6-0, advancing to the 4th round. Coach Bradley Bain and Marion Bain are travelling with the juniors.
The U14 JITIC Is an individual tennis championship event for top junior athletes in the U14 category in the Central American and Caribbean region. Approximately 80 boys and girls are competing in this event. The Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association congratulated all the juniors on their participation in this event as they all displayed their tennis skills internationally. William and Jerald made a strong push in the Boys Main Draw singles, Both boys along with Jackson will face each other in the Doubles Main Draw G-A Semifinals, and one will move on to the Finals. Patrick is continuing play in the Doubles G-3.
