The Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association (BLTA) President Perry Newton has been elected for two years to serve as the President of COTECC Subregion 3 Countries. Cotecc is the Confederation of Tennis of Central American and The Caribbean.
This appointment will allow President Newton to assist with the implementation of policies that develop tennis in Central America and the Caribbean. This is definitely a historical moment for the Bahamas to have its local tennis president elected to such a pivotal and instrumental position, influencing and overseeing tennis on a regional level.
The Subregion 3 countries include The Bahamas, The Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Haiti, Bermuda, Cayman Islands and Cuba. The main goals of Cotecc are:
-To encourage, direct, organize, regulate, govern and disseminate the practice of tennis
-Organize and run tournaments, championships and training programs for National Tennis Federations.
The BLTA and the entire tennis community congratulate President Newton and wish him well on his new regional post as The President of Subregion 3. President Newton joins the Cotecc board which is led by President Persio Maldonado from the Dominican Republic. President Newton stated ” I am honoured and privileged to represent this great group of nations as its subregion President. It is with great humility that I say thanks to my team in The Bahamas who have supported me thus far. I look forward to bringing more Tennis focus, activities and collaboration to Subregion 3. I thank God for this wonderful opportunity to represent the Bahamas on this global stage.”
