We are here on the grounds in Lima, Peru with Team Bahamas capturing each moment. Proudly representing The Bahamas all the way in Lima, Peru, our Fed Cup Team showed up strong on the first day of competition. Starting off in singles play was Danielle Thompson against Melena Lopez. Danielle came out and set a strong pace allowing Lopez no games with a final score of 6-0, 6-0. Danielle came out fired up and maintained a high momentum throughout the match.
Kerrie Cartwright who is debuting in her role as Player/Captain for The Bahamas was up next in the second Rubber. Kerrie would ensure the overall Team win with her great singles performance over Tangia Riley-Codrington 6-0, 6-0. The match went very smoothly for Kerrie who was unphased as she hammered down on her opponent.
Team Bahamas would then try to secure the 3-0 win with a doubles matchup of Sydney Clarke and Sierra Donaldson. The duo would win the first set 7-5 but lost in the second set in a tie break 6-7. Despite the need for a medical timeout in the 3rd set due to a slight
fall, Sydney was resilient and along with partner, Sierra persevered as local spectators including a few Bahamians who travelled with the team looked on to watch what would become a thriller of a match.
In the third set, Barbados’ Weekes and Lopez had a triple match point at 5-4. The Bahamas kept focused and under the direction of Coach Kerrie the Team was able to go on and win 3 straight points ending the third set 7-5.
The Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association congratulates the quartet of Kerrie, Danielle, Sydney and Sierra on the win yesterday over Team Barbados. The team is strong and we wish them continued success in Lima, Peru.
Team Bahamas has a day off today and faces Trinidad and Tobago TOMORROW. In the last head to head matchup, the Bahamas won over Trinidad as the countries spilt singles 1 all with the Doubles win going to The Bahamas.
