There are three active island associations sanctioned by the Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association (BLTA) namely The Abaco Tennis Association (ATA), the Eleuthera Tennis Association (ETA) and the Grand Bahama Tennis Association (GBTA). The BLTA aims to foster a continuous learning and growth environment in tennis in The Bahamas through the sharing of ideas, providing support, conducting certification and training courses, educational opportunities, and guidance. The BLTA recognizes that when we all grow together with similar opportunities, we can achieve so much making Bahamas Tennis stronger, united, and great.

Abaco – ATA
In August an official visit was made to Marsh Harbor, Abaco by President Perry Newton, Treasurer Timothy Dames and Assistant Secretary Wendy Bowe. The ATA continues to develop tennis in Abaco let us look at their most recent tennis initiative.
The Abaco Tennis Association (ATA) has partnered with the Long Bay School in Abaco. The ATA will be providing lessons every Wednesday at 9am at the school. The sessions will take place on the school’s basketball court. The ATA also supplies the sporting equipment required.
The progression of the ATA is to be commended as they are extending tennis to more and more children in Abaco. President Cameel McDonald and Vernon Russell were on hand to kick off the first session which was very successful.
Eleuthera – ETA
President Newton and Treasurer Timothy Dames met with ETA President Jerome Hill and the ETA board members in Rock Sound Eleuthera in October. Developmental matters and methods on facilitating growth on the island of Eleuthera were primary themes under consideration.
It is a very proud moment for the island of Eleuthera and for tennis as Artie Johnson has been named to The Bahamas Sports Hall of Fame for his tennis contributions. Artie has consistently conducted tennis camps in Eleuthera and senior tournaments over the years. He has worked tirelessly in the development of the sport. He has also performed community works, combining tennis initiatives and feeding programs. Artie is also a council member on the ETA.
Grand Bahama – GBTA
The Grand Bahama Tennis Association (GBTA) led by President Natishkah Barrett is constant in their work to develop tennis throughout Grand Bahama. President Newton is expected to visit Grand Bahama in the next few months.
We look forward to the continual development of tennis in Abaco, Eleuthera and Grand Bahama while opportunities are explored to expand tennis in other islands of The Bahamas promoting a climate of tennis sustainability.
