A Tennis Clinic for 25 young children affected by the monstrous Hurricane Dorian was held on Sunday past at the National Tennis Centre. The event was organized by a member of IC (International Tennis Clubs) the Bahamas in the person of Mr. Mike Keating.
Mr. Perry Newton, Head of Junior Development for the Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association supervised the on-court activities. The Juniors participating in IC Rod Laver Junior Challenge from The Bahamas, Mexico, Barbados and the United States along with their coaches led small groups in tennis sessions. Mr Corey Francis and Mrs. Rita Roy recent participants of BLTA Play Tennis Coaching Course rendered coaching assistance. Also on hand was Mr. Kit Spencer, IC Bahamas president.
In the clinic were kids ranging from ages 3 to 16 who were enthusiastic and eager to be introduced to the sport of Tennis. The coaches and juniors were interactive and creative with the tennis lessons.
IC motto “Hands across the net and friendships across the ocean” was exemplified on the weekend as the sport of tennis was shared and the lives of so many youngsters were impacted. The juniors had the pleasure of “giving back” of their time and talent. The kids who were invited to the clinic had an opportunity to come out of the shelter walls and to experience a time of fun and laughter as they played tennis.
A special thanks to IC Bahamas, the IC juniors and coaches from the United States, The Bahamas, Mexico and Barbados, BLTA’s Junior Development arm and the volunteers who assisted to make the event possible.
