At the close of the ITF Level 1 Coaching Course, the participants were able to put all the knowledge and skill learned into practice. On the court the coaches implemented lessons plans that they designed. The expert instructor Mr. John Goede, ITF Developmental Officer for the Caribbean led the group over the past 12 days at the National Tennis Centre. Our very own Bahamian Chelsi Russell was the assistant tutor.
This course follows the Play Tennis Course (PTC) hosted earlier in March by BLTA. Building off the PTC this ITF Level 1 has expanded the minds and creativity of the coaches.
This course is designed to give coaches the tools and skills to coach beginners and intermediate. The participants in the course include
Mike Butler, Rasheed Carey, Rodney Carey Sr., Shannon Francis, Keith Greene, Sharon Greene, Brent Johnson, Nolan Johnson, Philip Major Jr., Perry Newton Jr., McArthur Rigby and Julio Valdez.
The BLTA congratulates the coaches who took advantage of the opportunity to rejuvenate their coaching skills. The course was intensive and extensive. President Darnette Weir stated that “Bahamas Tennis should benefit from the improvement in the coaching base. We encourage the coaches to continue to contribute their services and talent to the overall enhancement of the sport.”
We thank Mr. Goede and the ITF for the support and the sharing of knowledge, ideas and experiences. We also thank Coach Chelsi Russell for being a major support in her role as Assistant Tutor. Thanks to the Olympic Solidarity Fund for providing the funds for the Course via the Bahamas Olympic Committee.
We will continue to promote coaches education, as coaching is a key element in the development of the Sport!
