It was a great day for the sport of tennis! The Ministry of Youth Sports and Culture (MOYSC) recognized some of the top rising stars in Sports in the country on Friday evening at Grand Hyatt, Bahmar. Michael Major Jr. who is the country’s #1 in U16 tennis and who is performing well internationally was designated as a rising star. Abigail Simms was also recognized for her contributions to tennis and was awarded the rising star award. Abigail and the Indiana Tech Warriors won the 2020/21 collegiate conference tennis title. Abigail was also ranked in the national collegiate tennis polls in singles and doubles!
Both Michael and Abigail are putting in good work and have been rewarded for their efforts. The MOYSC is keeping an eye on these athletes and has identified them as persons with tremendous potential. The Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association (BLTA) was proud to nominate both Michael and Abigail and is pleased that they have been recognized nationally for their hard work. We extend congratulations to these promising and talent-filled young athletes. Beyond being very talented they are both performing well in their studies; Michael attends Windsor High School at Albany and Abigail is studying Mechanical Engineering in college. These rising stars have good attitudes and their futures are very bright.
Continue to be a shining star MJ and Abigail!
