In her first year of collegiate tennis, Bahamian Sierra Donaldson was selected as this week’s Gulf South Conference Women’s Tennis, Freshman of the Week. Sierra who plays for Lee University was recognized for her tennis performance last week where she went 4-0 for the week in Lee’s matches at West Georgia and Mississippi College.
In singles competition playing at the No. 5, Sierra defeated Bailey McCammon of West Georgia 6-1, 6-1 and finished the week with a 7-6, 2-6, 10-7 win at No. 49 Mississippi College. In doubles action, she teamed up with Lauren Trammell her Lee Flames teammate to go 2-0 for the week. The dynamic duo won 6-0 win at West Georgia and 6-1 against Mississippi College.
Sierra who is also a member of the 2019 Fed Cup Team heading to Peru on Saturday spoke about her achievement. ” I am honoured to be named GSC freshman of the week. I’m really proud of my team and how we have been playing recently. My first year of college tennis has been a great experience and full of opportunities. It has also been full of excitement and new experiences. It’s helping me develop into a stronger player and teammate. I’m happy that I can represent Lee University and the Bahamas in a positive way.”
The Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association congratulates Sierra on her consistent and successful playing. Being named GSU Player of the Week is a wonderful accomplishment and we know that she will continue to reach new tennis heights on her tennis journey.
