It was a great day for Team Bahamas yesterday!
Team Bahamas is competing amongst the best in the region at the ITF/COTECC U12 Tennis Team Competition Sub Region 3 in Santiago De Los Caballeros, Dominican Republic. The Girls and Boys’ Teams performed at a high level and won 3-0 yesterday. The Girls are coached by Marion Bain and the Boys are coached by Jared Turnquest.
The Girls played host country Dominican Republic. They did not let the home court support sway them. Up first for The Bahamas was Saphirre Ferguson. Saphirre played well and won comfortably in straight sets 6-2,6-2. BreAnn Ferguson who played the #1 from the Dominican Republic would also play admirably securing a win 6-2, 6-3. The doubles team of Jalisa Clarke who hails from Freeport and Saphirre Ferguson ensured the 3-0 Team victory with a win in straight sets 6-1, 6-1.
On the boys’ side, Jerald Carroll would follow up on his win on Monday over Puerto Rico with another solid win yesterday 6-2, 6-2 over Cuba. Jackson Mactaggart would then secure the second win for Team Bahamas with a strong performance and a 6-3, 6-1 victory. Khai Rees would team up with Jerald to ensure a 3-0 victory for Team Bahamas over Cuba yesterday going to an exciting 3rd set tiebreak for the win 7-5, 2-6 10-4. The Bahamas Boys’ Team has two newcomers to team competition, Jackson Mactaggart and
Jerald Carroll a Freeport native.
The Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association congratulates Team Bahamas on the 3-0 wins. The Girls, BreAnn, Saphirre and Jalisa won in splendid fashion over Dominican Republic No. 1 Team and the Boys, Jackson, Jerald and Khai performed admirably to secure the win over Cuba. Yesterday we saw very strong performances from our teams all around. Competition continues today and The Bahamas is off to a really good start. We wish them continued success.
