The Bahamas books its ticket to the Final of the 2019 Fed Cup in Lima, Peru. Fed Cup is dubbed “The World Cup of Tennis” because of its prominence in the Tennis world. It features the best female players from all over the world. The Bahamas is playing in Group II Americas.
On court first, yesterday for The Bahamas was Danielle Thompson playing Breanna Stampfli of Trinidad and Tobago (T&T). The game was very competitive with Danielle receiving medical attention in the second set. She continued to play – painful but with lots of heart. The final results were 6-7, (4), 5-7.
Knowing that the next singles match was vital Player/Captain Kerrie Cartwright stepped up in Rubber 2. She won decisively in under an hour 6-0, 6-0 against Anya King of T&T.
The fate of Team Bahamas would be determined by doubles. Kerrie and Sierra Donaldson teamed up against Breanna and Anneliese Rose. Kerrie and Sierra won the 1st set 6-1 but lost the second 4 -6. The third set saw an increased intensity from Team Bahamas as Kerrie and Sierra were victorious 6-3.
The Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association congratulates Team Bahamas in their success thus far in Fed Cup action. Kerrie, Danielle, Sydney and Sierra continue to represent the country splendidly in Peru and we wish you great success in the Final.
The Bahamas is the No. 2 seeded nation and will take on host country and #1 seed Peru in the Final this morning at ten o’clock. Both teams have gone undefeated in pool play.
