The Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association (BLTA) congratulates Team Bahamas on a 3-0 Opening Day win at the prestigious Billie Jean King (BJK) Cup Americas Group II. The Bahamas is seeded #1 in the competition.
Coming out strong for The Bahamas was Elana Mackey who captured her maiden singles win at the BJK Cup. Elana only allowed her opponent 2 games and had a dominant performance with a straight-set victory over Daniela Aguilar of El Salvador 6-2, 6-0. Following was the Bahamas’ current National Tennis Champion Sydney Clarke. Sydney put the Bahamas in the win column once again with an impressive straight-set victory over Michelle Irigoyen of El Salvador 6-3 6-1.
Teaming up for doubles for The Bahamas would be Player/Captain Simone Pratt and Sydney Clarke. The duo sealed the deal giving The Bahamas a clean sweep over El Salvador. Simone and Sydney had a strong doubles performance winning over Irigoyen and Santos Marmol 6-0 6-3. The team consist of Sydney Clarke, Elana Mackey, Sierra Rodgers and Captain Simone Pratt. The Bahamas is expected to play Bermuda and the host country Dominican Republic in Group A round-robin. The team is sponsored by Fidelity Bank and Trust Bahamas Limited.
