The Road to The Bahamas’ 2019 Open Nationals’ Champions is completed. There are two new 2019 champions: Kevin Major Jr. and Kerrie Cartwright. On the men’s side, Kevin Major Jr. seeded #2 won in straight sets 7-5, 6-3 over Baker Newman (#1). KJ who expressed his desire to add the men’s Open Nationals’ title to his portfolio was successful in his goal on yesterday at the National Tennis Centre. The match was very competitive and both gentlemen displayed good sportsmanship.
On the women’s side, the #1 seed Kerrie Cartwright would face #2 Sydney Clarke. This matchup was also highly competitive with a first set tiebreak where Kerrie would come out on top 7-6(4). In the second set, Kerrie would close out 6-3.
Two more names have now been added to the 2020 Davis Cup team (Kevin Major Jr.and Baker Newman) and the first two persons being named to the Fed Cup team are Kerrie Cartwright and Sydney Clarke. Kevin and Baker join Justin Roberts who received automatic placement based on his ATP under 800 ranking. Remaining spots on the Davis Cup (1) and Fed Cup (2) teams will be determined from top finishers at the BLTA Invitationals in2020 (date TBA soon).
The crowd support was tremendous for the athletes and we encourage players to continue to come and exhibit their skills in front of the local tennis community. From all accounts, it was certainly a nice, fun and healthy atmosphere for those who attended.

The Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association closes the tennis season with another successful event.
