Team Bahamas ended its 2023 performance on a high note by winning its final tie against Panama. With the win The Bahamas remains in Group III as Panama gets relegated to Group IV.
Up first Denali Nottage came out strong winning in 2 sets over Luis Cheng 6-1, 6-3. Denali Nottage had an impressive debut performance with two singles wins in his first Davis Cup appearance! Kevin Major Jr came out in the #1 position winning 6-3, 6-4. This match for The Bahamas was a deciding tie for the team to remain in Group III and they clinched the win. Kevin led the team in the #1
spot and was able to solidify the wins for Team Bahamas.
The duo of Marvin Rolle and Donte Armbrister won two doubles ties against Dominican Republic and Honduras. Donte Armbrister earned his maiden Davis Cup win. Marvin Rolle continues to add to his impressive Davis Cup statistics. Marvin was presented with the Davis Cup Award of Service by the International Tennis Federation (ITF).
On Thursday The Bahamas also came up with a big win against Honduras. Denali Nottage would record his debut Davis Cup win in a 3-set thriller 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. Kevin Major Jr would follow up in the #1 position winning in straight sets 6-2, 6-0. Donte Armbrister and Marvin Rolle (player/captain) would record their second doubles win for the tournament in straight sets 7-6, 6-4.
President Perry Newton commended the team of Kevin, Denali, Donte and Marvin. He stated “I am very proud of this team. The competition was very intense and the quality of the teams was extremely high. The strength and resilience of Bahamian tennis players were on full display. It’s our hope and prayer that they continue to have success as they pursue their individual goals. Our Davis Cup players will definitely benefit from further investments in their development and programs geared toward upcoming Davis Cup athletes and it is hoped that more financial assistance will be given to aid in this endeavor.”
