The Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association (BLTA) is sending two teams to compete in San Salvador, El Salvador at The World Junior Tennis Competition(WJTC) pre-qualifying event.
From this 14 and under pre-qualifier only the top male and female teams will advance. The competition takes place at the Federacion Salvadorena de Tenis from the 19th – the 27th of February 2022. The tournament director is Cesar Nolasco.
The Bahamas Girls team consist of BreAnn Ferguson, Sarai Clarke and Rachel Thompson. Coach Paula Whitfield captains the team. The Bahamas Boys team consists of Jackson Mactaggart, William McCartney and Jerald Carroll. Coach Bradley Bain captains the team.
BLTA President Perry Newton noted that a number of participating countries from Central America and the Caribbean will compete for the top positions to advance to the qualifying round, slated to be held in Mexico later in the year. Due to the players residing in different countries, group training prior to the tournament
was a challenge. However, this is a talented group of junior players who have trained and put in a lot of work and they are enthused to represent the country. The coaches have also expressed their pleasure in the opportunity to coach the respective teams.
The teams travel this Saturday, the draws will take place on Sunday and the competition begins on Monday, 21st February. The BLTA wishes the team the best in tournament play.
