The Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association (BLTA) “Play Tennis Bahamas Program” Spring Session opened to a strong start. Young children ages 5-16 enter this introductory session with a goal to learn tennis and have some fun. Armed with the mission to offer tennis to as many young persons who have a desire to learn, the BLTA provides the optimal environment where this is possible. Many children are afforded the opportunity to learn a sport that was not available before; with an admin fee of $1 and all sporting equipment provided, access to the sport of tennis is wide open. The International Tennis Federation (ITF) has supported this junior tennis initiative and the equipment received has been put to good use not only in the Nassau program but junior programs in Abaco, Grand Bahama and Eleuthera.
Certified coaches were on hand to instruct the children in forehands, backhands, serves and volleys in the first two sessions. The kids are already playing tennis! BLTA President Perry Newton thanked the volunteer coaches who continue to giveback and impact the future generation of tennis players. As the numbers of new players continue to grow we encourage tennis athletes (juniors and seniors), national players and coaches to donate a small portion of their time to this vibrant program that is positively influencing our young people. Your participation will exponentially benefit the kids’ and add to their tennis skills and knowledge. Play Tennis Bahamas also teaches camaraderie, discipline and sportsmanship: lessons to use on and off the
court.
We believe there is tennis greatness waiting to be discovered. We look forward to continued growth and development as more and more children are added to the sport. The next session of Play Tennis Bahamas will be on February 19th at 9am
at The National Tennis Centre. Persons who wish to assist in teaching the next generation of players are encouraged to email pr@blta.net. Your time and talent will be an important seed in these new players’ tennis journey. Parents can also register their kids to participate via email.
