The Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association(BLTA) conducted a tennis workshop in conjunction with the Ministry of Education. The workshop provided training to over 25 Physical Education Teachers at the National Tennis Centre (NTC). The presenters at the workshop included the Internation Tennis Federation(ITF) Developmental Officer for the Caribbean, Mr. John Goede, top tennis coach Mr. Ceron Rolle and President Perry Newton. The teachers received classroom instructions and on the court training. This provided the teachers with the opportunity to expand their tennis knowledge.
President Perry Newton extends thanks to the Ministry of Education and to Mrs Clara Storr for assisting in the conference. He stated “In order for us to expand our pool of tennis players we must increase the number of coaches. Introducing tennis into the schools would be a very important step towards tennis growth and sustainability. Coaches development remains an important pillar in this administration.”
The Ministry of Education extended a heartfelt thanks to the BLTA and to President Newton for organizing this workshop that introduced the coaching possibilities for the sport of tennis. The workshop was informative and fun. The teachers were totally engaged and expressed their pleasure with the training received. They also had an opportunity to play with some kids and to test out their natural athletic abilities.
The on-court and in-class sessions were structured in a way to provide the teachers with the basic tools; this workshop is indeed a catalyst for tennis growth not just in New Providence but the entire Bahamas.
This is hopefully only the beginning of a wonderful partnership between the BLTA and the Ministry of Education with a view to ensuring each child has an opportunity to learn the beautiful sport of Tennis.
